Offered through the National Highway Institute (NHI), this FREE online course provides an introduction to the Statewide, metropolitan, and rural transportation planning requirements and highlights techniques that may be applied. It highlights the transportation requirements and planning processes, and why they are important; identifies the key stakeholders and describes their roles, responsibilities, and relationships in informed decision making.
This course is meant for Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) Regional Transportation Planning Organizations or affected non-metropolitan transportation officials with responsibility for transportation planning State Departments of Transportation Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration Planning, Transportation Planning, Programming, or Project Development staff working or participating in the Statewide or Metropolitan Transportation Planning process Transit Agencies.
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

Describe the requirements of the transportation planning process
Identify the players in the process and describe their roles and responsibilities
