    I recently heard that “food deserts” is not the correct term any more. Can someone explain why and what we should call them now?

    I read this article that provides an overview of the argument and some references to studies:

    The main idea is that areas are not completely absent of food, but rather are in need of healthier options. Here are some other terms recommended to use instead of “food deserts” – <span style=”color: #323232; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 18px;”>”fresh food deserts” or “health food deserts”; some have even suggested to adopt </span><span style=”color: #323232; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 18px;”>”junk food jungles” or “food swamps”.</span>
